AF Corse’s Piergiuseppe Perazzini made Blancpain GT Sports Club history at Spa-Francorchamps, as he became the first Iron Cup driver to claim an Overall pole position at the end of Friday’s 20-minute Qualifying.
Having already topped both free practice sessions in the #53 Ferrari 488 GT3, the Italian ace extended his dominance with a 2:20.289 flyer to go fastest among the 22 Blancpain GT Sports Club runners and riders entering round four of the 2017 season.
Perazzini will thus start Friday’s 25-minute Qualifying Race ahead of Overall points leader Anthony Pons in the #72 AKKA ASP-entered Mercedes-AMG GT3.
The second row will be occupied by Karim Ojjeh’s #2 Boutsen Ginion-run BMW M6 GT3, with AF Corse’s Patrick van Glabeke confirming his fine form aboard the #488 Ferrari 488 GT3 with a strong run to P4. Autovitesse Garage R.Affolter’s Cédric Leimer completes the top five positions with the #963 Lamborghini Huracan GT3.
In the Iron Cup category reserved for drivers aged 60 and over, Klaus Dieter Frers once again outpaced current points leader Stephen Earle. The Artega Rennsport racer (#3 Ferrari 488 GT3) will start the Qualifying Race from P8, while his US rival from Kessel Racing (#111 Ferrari 458 Italia GT3) had to settle for 16th.
Xtra Cup challenger Dilantha Malagamuwa from Sri Lanka secured P14 on the grid with the #24 GDL Racing-entered Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo.
Friday’s 25-minute Qualifying Race gets under way at 17:35, Spa-Francorchamps time. You can enjoy it live on our official Blancpain GT Sports Club website with English and French commentary, as well as on SRO Motorsports Group’s GT World YouTube channel.
