Blancpain GT Sports Club Overall points leader Anthony Pons has topped the second free practice held at the Hungaroring, lapping around the 4.381km venue on a 1:45.470 with the #72 AKKA-ASP Mercedes-AMG GT3.
In the Iron Cup category reserved for drivers aged 60 and over, current championship leader Klaus Dieter Frers was once again quickest with the #3 Artega Rennsport Ferrari 488 GT3.
The Blancpain GT Sports Club runners and riders had little time to rest in between the two practice sessions but they still took to the Hungaroring with gusto. Pons laid down the early marker but AF Corse’s Patrick van Glabeke soon clocked a new fastest lap to hoist his #488 Ferrari GT3 past the Mercedes.
Pons re-claimed the top spot with a 1:45.470 flying lap that would remain the benchmark until the end of FP2. Christophe Ulrich, who had gone quickest in the opening practice, came close to making it two out of two in the #51 Ferrari 458 Italia GT3. The AF Corse driver had to settle for second place, 0.173s behind Pons and 0.282s ahead of team-mate Van Glabeke.
Fourth in the standings was Iron Cup ace Frers, with Bousten Ginion’s Karim Ojjeh rounding up the top five aboard the #2 BMW M6 GT3.
With overtaking opportunities few and far between at the tight and twisty Hungaroring, the all-important fight for pole position will begin at 14:45, local time.
