Van Glabeke claims maiden pole of the season in Budapest, as Frers rules Iron Cup field

26 August 2017 Van Glabeke claims maiden pole of the season in Budapest, as Frers rules Iron Cup field

Patrick Van Glabeke has secured his maiden Blancpain GT Sports Club pole position of the season after a dominant display aboard the #488 AF Corse-run Ferrari 488 GT3 around the Hungaroring.

Meanwhile, Iron Cup points leader Klaus Dieter Frers extended his free practice dominance to convert it into the fastest lap time in class aboard the #3 Artega Rennsport Ferrari 488 GT3.

Blancpain GT Sports Club overall points leader Anthony Pons thought he had pole in the bag, but the AKKA ASP driver saw several of his lap times cancelled for track limits infringement. That said, Van Glabeke managed to unlock even more pace in the closing moments of the session, resulting in a 1:45.711 flyer that put him definitely out of reach.

FP1 pace setter and AF Corse team-mate Christoph Ulrich will be third on the grid with the #51 Ferrari 458 Italia GT3. Alongside him will be Frers, while Boutsen Ginion’s Karim Ojjeh made it three fifth-place finishes in a row in Budapest, which plays host to round five in this year's six-weekend campaign.
